In Memory

Edmund Mahoney

From Carl DeMatteo:

Ed Mahoney passed away last week.

Even though he went to a private school his senior year, he enjoyed all of our reunions and took great pride in being part of our class.  I had been friends with Ed since the seventh grade, at the then, Junior High West.  After I retired from teaching, I worked at an electronics company.  Ed became the head of the shipping department and we had some fun years working together.  He was a proud Vietnam era Marine.

An avid skier, Ed and his wife Lynda moved to North Conway around five years ago.  He experienced some ill health in the last few years.  Luckily, Ed Egan and I got a chance to visit with Ed this summer.   We had a great visit with a lot of laughs.

His family is planning a private celebration of his life.

Ed was a good man and a friend.  He was a terrific and proud Marine.  He was the kind of guy you could totally respect and know you would always get a straight answer from him. He was completely genuine, which I always thought was one of his greatest qualities.  He was one reliable guy and strong of heart. Sad to see him pass. God bless my friend and Brother. See you in Valhalla!

Oh dear!  The other half of the Mahoney/Macklin duo gone.  He was a sweet guy.  I, too, knew him from 7th grade on.  He and Jimmy were in my homeroom all the way through.  He helped on reunions and was always friendly and warm.  I looked for him at our recent reunion but didn't see him.  I think he lived in Burlington until recently.  Didn't realize that he had gone to North Conway.  Another dear classmate gone.

RIP, Ed.  We were brothers in arms in an unpopular war, and I honor your service.
