Ann and I were great friends at Arlington High.  We were in marching band, dance band and orchestra together and I would frequently go to her home after school.  I remember her parents and younger sister, Laura.  We went to the Senior Prom together with our respective dates and I still have a picture of us dressed for the prom.

Ann went to Lowell State where she majored in music (trumpet) and I went to UMass Amherst.  That, coupled with the fact that my family moved to Newton, meant that we didn't see each other much, but still talked on the phone and considered ourselves friends.  Ann went to Italy for a vacation after graduating Lowell State, and ended up staying there.  She married a man she met in an orchestra in Italy where they were both employed.  She sent me the announcement of the birth of her first child.  And, we exchanged Christmas cards for a while, but I never saw her again.

I was saddened to learn of her early death, but will remember her forever.  She was intelligent and had a quick sense of humor.  Her parents would speak together in Italian when conversing about things that they didn't want Ann and Laura to hear.  But both Ann and Laura easily understood Italian from growing up in the household, and never let their parents know that they understood everything that was being said.  I miss Ann.
